Our Mission In Action
It is the mission of the Day School to offer a balance between play and academics in an engaging child-centered, and open-ended atmosphere. Using a child’s intrinsic ability to explore through the five senses, our program emphasizes an authentic process that inspires growth. Our classrooms can be a little messy and a little noisy. We embrace those as the sights and sounds of a vibrant learning environment!
The science of reading supports the Redeemer approach.

LANGUAGE & LITERACY DEVELOPMENT
Language Arts Curriculum
Literacy and language development is fundamental to learning. Pre-literacy skills and early language concepts are emphasized beginning with our youngest students. Through the use of literature, rhyming, dramatic play, and poetry, our students are prepared for more complex language and literacy skills necessary to becoming confident and capable readers, writes and communicators. Beginning in pre-kindergarten, students utilize the research-based Wilson Fundations Phonics and Hegerty Phonemic Awareness Programs, both of which continue through third grade.
Library Program
Redeemer Parish Day School is fortunate to have a library with countless books, ranging from classic picture books to age-appropriate non-fiction titles. Beginning in the 2s, classes attend a weekly library session, offering additional opportunity for the development of reading comprehension and focused listening. Children are given the option to check out books, fostering independence and accountability.
Spanish Classes
Students in kindergarten & pre-first attend a once a week Spanish enrichment class. The introductory, multi-sensory program exposes our students to a second language and culture using games, songs and age-appropriate activities.

Project Highlight: Kindergarten & Pre-first Publishing Party
Jen Barta, Assistant Head of School
Our kindergarten and pre-first students spend the year learning about the writing process, starting with colorful illustrations that spark their imaginations. They move on to labeling their drawings, using inventive spelling to phonetically express their thoughts. Gradually they advance to writing words and forming sentences, each step building their confidence and skills. Our young authors create several individual and class books throughout the year which are featured at the Publishing Party. After studying a variety of authors and illustrators, our budding writers become published authors themselves. The moment they receive their final “published” book from the publishing company is magical. The Publishing Party at Redeemer Parish Day School is the culminating event for all the young authors to share their hard work and growth as writers with their families, friends and classmates. Their sense of pride and accomplishment is immeasurable.
