Celebrating our Students

3rd Grade Graduation

On June 3 our third graders entered the Church of the Redeemer as Parish Day School students for the last time. After walking into Pomp & Circumstance, Mother O offered a blessing to open the service. We heard from student speaker, Jack Zohorsky, and Head of School, Mary Knott, whose reflections captured the spirit of our third grade and Redeemer community. Led by Katie Poe, the third graders performed, “I’m So Blessed,” together for the last time. A few students received awards and a special “conference report memory” was read as each student received a diploma. The students were gifted copies of “The Phantom Toll Booth”, and third grade teacher, Patty Barry, wished them well on their next adventure, especially in recognizing the joy in discovering the unknown. In true Redeemer style, the third graders ended the celebration by tossing their Redeemer red caps in the air. We are all so proud of their tremendous growth and accomplishments during their time at Redeemer and look forward to seeing them continue to blossom as they move onto new schools.

Remarks by Jack Zohorsky, 3rd Grade Speaker

Hello, my name is Jack Zohorsky. I’ve been attending Redeemer for seven years and I have three siblings and three cousins at the school. I stand in front of you this morning to talk about how special Redeemer is to not only me, but on behalf of my classmates as well.

The first thing I think about when someone asks me if I enjoy going to school at Redeemer is the teachers. They greet you every morning with a smile on their face and call you by name. The teachers know each child individually and connect with us – whether through creative lessons in the classroom that align with our interests such as Super Bowl multiplication…. to lion footie pranks with the HEAD OF SCHOOL. Redeemer understands kids.

Additionally, because they understand kids…

Superlatives & Soiree

On the evening of May 22, third grade families and faculty gathered to kick-off the celebrations of our first graduates, the class of 2024. Full of school spirit, we shared a meal, danced, and gathered to celebrate this very special class of third graders. Highlights included superlatives for each member of the class as well as a faculty dance number. The class gifted a very special chess board to the school, and parents created yearbooks, capturing wonderful memories of time together. The fun and festive gathering was a true testament to our wonderful community spirit!

3rd Grade Video – Through the Years

June Jamboree

Our end of year annual tradition, the June Jamboree, is the perfect punctuation mark to a year filled with laughter, energy, fun, and learning! On the morning of June 4, each of the classes, 2s through 2nd grade, performed in front of a full church. The program ended with the entire congregation singing, “One Small Voice” & “We Can Make a Difference,” led by pre-firster, Rory Sprouse. It is so wonderful that our students truly understand the impact they can make in our world! We are so grateful to our music teacher, Annette Bednez, for bringing her talents and gift of teaching music to our youngest learners.

Pre-first Caps without Gowns Celebration

Each year we honor our Pre-first class as they transition from preschool to their elementary years with a “Caps without Gowns Celebration.” The students receive red embroidered Redeemer caps and lead the school out of the church on the silver trikes. As the leaders of the preschool division, it is a treat to see their joyful and confident spirit! It is the perfect ending for their preschool journey!

T’was the Day Before Summer

T’was the day before summer, when all through the school,
Every creature was stirring, chaos was the rule.
Backpacks were hung in the cubbies with care,
Knowing that summer soon would be here;
The children were running, dodging in their Keds,
While visions of swimming pools danc’d in their heads,
Teachers exhausted, the year was a wrap,
We were all too ready for long summer naps-

When out on the playground there arose such a clatter,
We sprang from our classrooms to see what was the matter.
Away to the doors we flew like a flash,
Dodging the trikes, it was quite a mad dash.
When all of a sudden, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But miniature children, our 2s, in tiny rain gear.

Another year in school, so lively and quick,
30 strong, each one is a top pick.
More rapid than silver trikes, the 3s became,
Brainiacs, and creators, no one was the same!

Now, Fiske Pre-k! Now, Wyatts! Now Owens and Knotts in the mixin!
Pre-k learned ABCs, some math, and a little non-fiction!
On the top of the monkey bars! And over the wall!
Pre-k, sing away! Sing away! Sing away all!”

As leaves that before a wild hurricane fly,
Kindergarten meets obstacles, and mounts to the sky;
With fresh air and lots of energy, we paraded outside
Where playgrounds and friendships took us through this wild ride.

As we drew in our heads, and turned around,
Down the stairs Pre-first came with a bound!
Redeemer students are they, from each head to each foot,
Clothes tarnish’d with mud and maybe some soot;
Their eyes – how they twinkle! Their smiles – how merry,
Knees that are skinned, and red like a cherry;
Broad faces, and little round bellies
In Pre-first, we laugh’d, like bowls full of jelly:

A wink of our eyes and a nod of the head
Our first, second, and third grade students led us straight ahead
We spoke of new things, and went straight to our work,
Filling all our hearts; the elementary division at Redeemer has plentiful perks!

Together we stand as one, so it goes.
And working together, united we rose.
We sprung to action, each day until dismissal,
And away we soared, as a team, it was official:
And here we are with more fun in good sight

Happy Summer to all, and to all a good night!
